In the initiative Ven2-4Cancer (pronounced as ‘Ventoux for Cancer’) cyclists unite to gather funds in support of cancer recovery. They also seek to share their inspiration about living life to the fullest, even when that seems an uphill battle. The struggle to conquer the Mont Ventoux four times in a single day symbolizes the sheer impossible task that cancer patients undertake every day to live life in spite of a disease. Individual participants cycle up the ‘bare mountain’ four times each; teams pool their efforts to total at least four runs.
On September 9th 2009 (09-09-09) the Mont Ventoux was the scene of this incredible challenge. In association with the monumental physical challenge, participants of Ven2-4Cancer seek to gather a record amount of contributions for the Vlaamse Liga tegen Kanker and its well-known campaign: ‘Come on against Cancer’. Ven2-4Cancer recognizes in the Vlaamse Liga its own motto: ‘Never Ever Quit!’. Read about the mission statement for Ven2-4 cancer here.
Ven2-4Cancer is a new initiatieve of the international organization Inspire2Live that has been recently established. Inspire2Live has been created to expand the success of the Netherlands based Alpe d’HuZes sporting events worldwide. The breathtaking success of the Alpe d’Huzes cycling events on Alpe Huez since 2006 has encouraged the Dutch organizers to join forces with athletes throughout the world, willing to ride in support of those who refuse to surrender to illness. Inspire2Live hopes for an international sporting event in 2012 that will connect champions of life throughout 24 time zones.
In Belgium, Inspire2Live organizes Ven2-4Cancer for cyclists eager to join in the challenge up the Mont Ventoux that will be both symbolic and physically extremely demanding! Ven2-4Cancer promises to bring together athletes, support volunteers and sponsors in an irresistible cycling event. The participants in Alpe d’HuZes have experiences the amazing synergy of working together to achieve the impossible and to gather a huge sum of money. 100% of all contributions directly benefit the struggle to overcome cancer, as Ven2-4Cancer implements a strict zero cost policy.
The first edition of Ven2-4Cancer was a great succes! With nearly 80 participants and more than 125.000 Euros were donated for cancer research in Belgium. A second edition will take place in september 10th, 2010.
